Was there any justification for the high ticket prices?

I'm not sure anything ever justifies ticket prices being that high, lol. The fact that it was televised probably has something to do with it. (Also, that it's downtown Chicago on NYE where prices for everything are jacked up on the holiday..just because they can.) The Collective Soul concert tickets were something like $85 and they were also televised. I almost went to see them, but I'm glad I chose the Hip. I always enjoy seeing them.

If Gordie could be a comic character, he'd have to be Calvin (from Calvin & Hobbes). He's always so animated and he must certainly be seeing things that we don't. I love it!

Sorry we missed all the Hipbasers... I didn't recognize anyone from their avatar and I did not wear my 'Ask me about the Hipbase' button - so I thought it was going to be difficult to meet someone from here.

We were on the left side of the stage, in front of the left side bar, sitting on the bar stools against the railing.

On this railing, there were party horns, noise makers and Korbel champagne keychains.

After the midnight mark, a bouncer from the side of the bar handed out glasses of champagne.

So, for the $145, we got a cool night at the HOB w/the Hip, a keychain and a glass of champagne. :)

...and I hope we made it on the broadcast. Looking forward to it Chris (thanks for getting it ready for the community).

The new stuff sounded great.

Also looking forward to some US dates. Hope to see them again soon.

Take it easy,

Jerremy

Download it via Bit Torrent through our tracker: www.thehiptracker.com

It is a sharing site, not a downloading site, so keep your share ratio close to 1.0 or you may get banned.

Mr. James Brown

Nice quote from Downie about the NYE 2006 show in Chicago, from an interview with Jeff Miers of the Buffalo News (http://www.buffalonews.com/197/story/28743.html):

After all this time, does Downie have a clear image of just what it is both audience and musicians are after during the communal concert experience?

“Something authentic,” he says, without a hint of equivocation. “At the very least, paying tribute to those that came before you — the greats, your ancestors, the sort of heroes you look up to the rafters to see each night. The ones that you’re grateful to, and you’re grateful to be in some very distant proximity to.

“For example, we played New Year’s Eve in Chicago, at the House of Blues, and it was the stage that James Brown had played on 10 years earlier. He’d just died a few days prior to our show. And that night, I couldn’t escape, and I didn’t want to escape, that feeling of being very grateful to be on stage, and to do what I do.”

To get everyone in the mood for some quality New Year's Eve 2007 speculation, WXRT has some nice shots from the 2006 show up on its Web site...

... including this impressive display of Gordie's vertical leap:
