Notes: This show was cut short in the encore because of some jerks in the crowd giving Gord Downie "the finger" for most of the show.
The band walked on stage to a chorus of "Hip, Hip Hip Hip..." Gord says, "Thank you. We'd like to do a song now for Michel Trudeau, it's called, 'The Completists'"
At the end of the song Gord simply says, "Let's go!" And off walks the band.
He was understandably pissed.
The pit was out of control.

This Steeplechase outro in Gift Shop / intro to Lake Fever is fantastic.

2nd night of the "Evening With" shows and during the 2nd set Gord just starts going off:

"You're a pacifist, aren't you?"

"Is there some kind of unrest in the pit? Is there some kind of problem with the - your view? What's wrong? Please, I want to know. Because you can't keep giving me the finger and expect me to go on with the show. It has an effect. How could it not? I could try to ignore you, but, that's not the ticket you bought. And what about your friend, young Castro? Where'd he go? That's how Milosevic started."

Looking forward to this; my third Hip show was on this tour and it was just incredible. Highlights for me were M@W (didn't really like the album version but as soon as I heard it live, I decided it was awesome) and Yawning or Snarling with Kate Fenner.

Had a bunch of boots from this tour and don't remember a single one that wasn't at least really good.

Putting Down - like fireworks last month, a bit of a different opener but it sounds really good and one I've always liked

Something On - great tune and I don't think I've ever heard a bad version of it

Giftshop - keys opening is interesting and then the intro just comes in and builds with the keys making it a bit more ominous. Robby has a couple of fast fun licks before the Steeplechase

Lake Fever - the spoken word intro is wonderful although Gord does seem a tad off when he comes in with the first verse. Settles in nicely after that though.

Fully - sounds solid as usual. Paul's guitar has some really nice grit going; almost bell like when he's playing restrained but when he digs in it is starting to snarl. Robby's licks ring out perfectly and as usual, they compliment each other well

Eldorado - very interesting take on this one - figured Kate was coming in for verse 2 and it certainly changes the feel of the song.

Fireworks - high tempo and energy

Thugs - what an intro! Big, menacing and perfect. Always hoped to catch this but never did. Nice insomniacs tag as well

Opiated - this keeps showing up - another great version. Not quite as good as some of the earlier ones but still really good

700ft is solid and the outro/transition to Grace is fantastic

Grace - wonderful as always.

MMAW - didn't get this song until I heard it live and then it just clicked. Frenetic feel to it here and I'm not really sold on the keys in this song

Emperor - sublime

Boots - always been take it or leave it with this song. Not the most energetic to start but it picks up and the keys are great. Crowd also sounds into it.

Train - drumming really stands out here along with background vocals. The combo of guitar and keyboard fills was pretty cool

Scared - wonderful - should have been prepared for Kate to sing with him but was surprised to hear her come in.

Courage - solid - crowd definitely loving it

Sharks - intro was hypnotic, more so than I recall from the album. Seems like they're just grooving away

Poets - love this intro! Obviously Gord is pissed but just before and while he's going off the whole tone of the song seems to become darker and almost menacing so seems everyone is feeling it.

Sherpa - another hypnotic, groovy song.

100th - Gord seems agitated still, mumbling before the beginning, speeding through the first part almost like he's in rush to get through the rest of the set.

ABAC - good solid version

Gems - love this transition and the slow build always sends chills down my spine

Freak Turbulence - guitars sound really good here - more obvious than the album cut and cleaner on the intro which sounds good

Nautical - is there a bad version of this? One of my favourites.

Tiger - love this tune; from the first listen I've loved it and wish it had appeared more often after this tour.

NOIS - great closer for the main set; Rob's licks feel familiar but also like he's a bit off the regular path; a few more little twists and turns.

Completists - good version of the song - wonder what the closer was supposed to be

Great show!

This is such a great show. It has been effectively kicking my ass all month so far. Great choice, Dana. Not sure if I've heard the whole show before, just maybe a few songs and clips from the DVD. Will have to watch this ASAP.

The first time I listened to the show, I had to check to make sure the show wasn't on shuffle, as deep cut after deep cut in the first set threw me off!

I finally got the chance to listen to this show, and I absolutely love it. I did my best to ignore the setlist, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear Emperor Penguin show up, and it was the first time I've ever heard the Jet tag added on to it - so good!

I was so close to seeing my first ever hip show on this tour and it didn't work out, and each time I listen to a boot from the tour I'm reminded what I miss.

Each time Kate sings a verse, it's awesome to hear the crowd explode and send shivers down my spine.

Thanks for sharing this. I'd be up for a weakest link type approach for all shows on this tour :)
