Hipbase Bootleg Show of the Month: January 2019

Post by sean.bonner »

New Year! New Bootleg!

Our next selection brings us to the Now For Plan A tour. For this edition, I'd we are getting into the nitty gritty of it, because this one is a long way from a soundboard. This is a fantastic show, however the recording is one that I would never recommend to a casual fan. But we are not casual fans here, eh!?

So without further ado, here is Scotty12's selection for Now For Plan A:

2012-11-06 - Rochester, New York - Auditorium Theater
Scotty12 wrote:For NFPA Im going to nominate 2012-11-06 Rochester NY. Its not a delicious soundboard like some the recordings we have been blessed with, but look at the setlist the band blessed us with. Rare cuts seemingly out of nowhere. Done and done debut, after which it was done and done.

November 06, 2012: Auditorium Theatre, Rochester

Recorded from Row O center, seat 8.

Church Audio microphones>Sony Minidisc MZ-N707-MD-Walkman>PC line in>Sound Forge Pro 10>Flac Frontend

Via Sound Forge the volume was balanced, EQ'd with a slight mid boost and bass roll-off.
Also used the Wave Hammer tool to maximize volume but bypassed any compression.
Wav files were encoded to Flac level 8.

I've only listened up to Don't Wake Daddy so far and I'm digging this show. Seven songs in and none of the 'big hits' so far. The Hip sure seemed to take more risks set list-wise In the U.S. at least compared to when they got out to western Canada the next year.

Surely a show on a tour for a very very underrated album. Great representation here, with the band on firing on all cylinders to an insane setlist.

I can't believe this is potentially locked up in some sort of digital vault somewhere in pristine quality.

If I wrote a Hip setlist for this tour, I def would have put Done and Done followed by Goodnight Attawapiskat as a 1-2 Now For Plan A punch near the end of a set.

This is a very nice listen. Gord had not gotten too much into "screamo" mode at this point in the tour. The following year, there quite a few comments from friends who were very casual fans about the amount of screamed lyrics etc..
