All I could make out
Was that poor girl saying,
"Qu'est-ce-que tu vas faire?"
"What are you gonna do?"

I went on to Montreal via Ottawa after the Cobourg show. It rained all day today, but stopped just as RAA went on. Was very cool to see Sam Roberts in their hometown. Their kids were all watching on the side, and were so cute, they were distracting! Sam introduced them as the Sam Roberts Band Dancers.
For a stadium show, this one was fantastic. I did another VIP fail, in that, I bought the VIP this time around, but the better spot was in GA, so I wasted a lot of money, oh well. I went to the front on the right side, and it was great there.
Started to pour again, especially during ABAC, but it kind of brought out the charm of the show for me. There were a ton of rants tonight - in Poets and Nautical, and they were really letting Rob go at it in all of the songs.
I actually liked this show much better than the Cobourg one. No crazy drunk people around me, just happy, wet, muddy music lovers! Good times!

Disappointed by the setlist, after seeing the cobourg one got my hopes up...nothing but radio songs. Found the band (especially Gord) disjointed at times, missing cues, forgetting lyrics...hell, they even let Gord S sing a verse of wheat kings and he forgot that.
That said, the rain and atmosphere made it a unique and fun show. Would have liked a rarity or two, but...oh well, I guess.

I'd say that's pretty much what we can expect from these outdoor gigs. The Cobourg setlist at least gives me a tiny shred of hope that they'll throw in a few rarities here and there. My guess is Europe will get much more interesting setlists than we're getting here.SRK wrote:Disappointed by the setlist, after seeing the cobourg one got my hopes up...nothing but radio songs.

I'm a bit surprised that we haven't heard a new song or two. It's been 3 years since most of NFPA was written. You'd think they must have at least a couple songs finished, from the next batch.

Doubtful. Don't forget, Gord was dealing with his wife's cancer during that time, and they had to put that album on hold for a while. They've had about 4 months off between tours, and my guess is they probably spent that time with their families. Also, Paul has been busy working on his next solo album during the down time. They likely won't start writing the next Hip album until after they're done touring NFPA. I'd love to hear some new material as well, but I don't think it'll happen for a while.Dire Wolf wrote:I'm a bit surprised that we haven't heard a new song or two. I am hopeful and agree with that...direwolf74 wrote:My guess is Europe will get much more interesting setlists than we're getting here.
Since they really haven't played the back half of NFPA live, I still thing of those as brand new... Country Day as well... ha ha..Dire Wolf wrote: I'm a bit surprised that we haven't heard a new song or two. It's been 3 years since most of NFPA was written. I am really looking forward to what Europe brings... and it'd be nice if that set the stage for the Orpheum run...
