Bootleg Club - First Edition, Volume 06

Post by sean.bonner »

Welcome to the 6th volume of our very first edition of the Hipbase Bootleg Club!

Every two weeks a member of the Hipbase will post an audio recording to be featured in the Hipbase community. We will then all be required to rock the hell out of the selected audio day-in and day-out for a two week period (or ... also once).

Volume 06 runs from January 13th - January 26th. The Volume 06 selection has been made by Hipbaser kaisersozee!

And the show selected is....

1995-02-10 - Toronto, Ontario
Maple Leaf Gardens

This show is freely available on the Hipbase Live Show Archive
http://hipbase.com/show-archive/
Under MASTER-MP3 or MASTER-FLAC, select the 1995 folder, however, there is also a remixed version that kaisersozee sent me, that can be found right here:

Here is what Hipbaser kaisersozee had to say about this selection:

I chose this show because it was my favorite show I ever saw. I had just bought a Sony DAT recorder at the suggestion of my friend Paul Russell (owner of Looney Tunes in Burlington) and taped the Hamilton show the night before this, incredible show and energy. When I listened to the tape I became "hipnotized" by the lyrics during NOIS (I seen more blurry lights than starry nights...) that I had not heard before and listened to it over and over. Paul said lets go see the Toronto show and I jumped at the chance. It was even better, with Gordie having so much fun, the crowd was wild from the first note. The eruption for 50 Mission Cap shook the building!! When I heard Gord added more lyrics to the part I had noticed it blew my mind that they were creating a song live during the tour!! Since then I have seen their creative genius and heard their playing of songs "to come" dozens of times planting the songs subliminally into the fan's heads. Pure genius!! What a roller coaster ride this one was!!

The set list covered lots of Day4Night and included almost all my favorite songs to date.
Hope you all enjoy!! We are family!!

Try to sit still through this show......

kaisersozee, any chance you can elaborate on your remix of the Toronto '95 recording, and has your Hamilton '95 recording ever been released?

I have been out of the country dealing with a sick family member so it was not me that remixed it. Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) was used by Mike Graham he compressed it and used the eq to clean it up a bit (he sent his regards to you). I have no DAT to transfer the Copps show at this time but yesterday I went through 10 of my 50 boxes of tapes looking for my DATs (no joy yet on that but at least I found a cassette copy and 13 more unreleased shows). It is on my mind but it is a work in progress & I will release it for sure.

thanks for clarifying the Toronto remaster...wasn't sure if it was the same source mixed, or if it was more of a matrix using a new source.

send me a note if you ever need help with digitizing/transferring.

I'm digging this show. The sound is quite good, nice capture. I like the early 'Century" lyrics during NOIS.

Listened to this show last night. Great/epic performance! Hearing Fifty Mission Cap inside MSG brought a huge smile to my face.

Also, and Impossibilium > Cordelia encore is ludacris. Sounds like it was Paula's birthday too! Great Meridian, even better NOIS.

I find even with instrumental Hiccups, I always sing the lyrics (Some of my fav Hip lyrics of all time!)

Little Bones sounded like the boys were on speed, man what a tempo! Love that they ended with Cordelia, criminally under played the last 10-15 years.

My favorite show full of great comments and rants and what a set list - starts with "Good evening, what a dump" intro to Grace, later "us and Odds and Change of heart we been to the feet, we been to the knees, we were in Kingston the vagina, and the Hammer last night which is of course the cock - the Inevitability of Death, you pussycats" Then Locked, Gems and the 50 Mission intro "Here is a song for the people with the Maple Leafs on their blue coats tonight, our ushers and usherettes... they seen every weird, beautiful thing that ever happened here". Killer Thugs, epic 100th Meridian (as always). DD then Scared. And 'the bluebird of happiness sits on your right shoulder and the red bird of espionage sits on your left" intro to Pigeon. One of my all time favorite Nautical, as was said Little Bones on "speed" lol, the incredibly dreamy Titanic Terraaaarrrrium, "Okay its time to lift up your apron and do the dishes" Greasy intro lol. Then the song that has been rattling in my head for 22 years now. An amazing total energy Fire in The Hole to close out the main set. An encore to dream of Lionized with then Three Pistols and Bobbie totally killing it. Then back for more with second encore, " here is a song about making love in the Air and Space Museum in Washington DC at the end of WWII" Impossibilium and "Shakespeare my ass, here is a song about the third and youngest daughter" Cordelia to put the icing on that cake!!

Weird that my comments didnt post, could have sworn I responded to this thread with stuff similar to what's above. Lots of great stage banter from Gord in this show.

Titanic terrarium was haunting.

Thanks so much for taping and sharing it Tony, you can almost feel the gritty energy throughout the tape.
