The show tonight was pretty cool. Titanic Terrarium was a treat and they did a cover of Cheap Trick's Surrender. The crowd seemed pretty into it, at least around me. The Hipbaser at row F, seat 5, on the floor you rock! You were non stop.

Awesome show. This was my second show after seeing them two years ago at Salmon Fest. The boys were on fire as usual. The sound mix was really good overall; I was in the 13th row. Couldn't believe they played Titanic; definitely didn't see that one coming. I have a feeling they played that because they were in Nfld, like when they play Dire Wolf when they're here. It was awesome since no one knew what the hell it was and pretty much everyone was quiet, but me and my buddy were lovin' it. I yelled at the top of my lungs "We don't f**k with the 401" really loud, and I think Gord heard and quickly looked around to see! Titanic, plus Locked, Grace, and LTR were the best songs of the night, IMO.

That's easily one of the best setlists I've seen on this entire tour.

That would be me. Thanks. :) I take it you were the dude in the Tales From The Hip shirt?

Anyway, just a few quick notes about the show:

- The crowd was pretty good. Your regualr assortment of meatheads, but that's par for the course, at least as far as stadium/arena shows go.

- The sound was great by Mile One standards, except Gord's mic seemed to be mixed a bit low. During the outro to the jam of ATHM, I couldn't hear a word he said until the band stopped playing right before launching back into the chorus, which is a shame since that part is a showstopper.

- Although it was nice to be there with my best friend, who does enjoy the Hip quite a bit and has similar taste in music in general as me, it was frustrating as hell listening to him talk about how he thinks Gord is on so many drugs and that's why he does all his antics. This includes this gem: "Man, I just saw him put something under his tongue - I told you he was on acid!" or "Look at his eyes, he's whipped!".

- I think I was one of the only ones in the place who recognized Terrarium right away. About 2 seconds into the song, I turned to my buddy (who isn't really a huge fan and didn't recognize the song at all) and started yelling "Titanic Terrarium, wow, Titanic fucking Terrarium". Good times.

- LTR was such a treat. Long story short: a few years ago, my uncle died of Huntignton's at 40. He was the guy that got me into The Hip when I was a just a 10 or 11 year old kid who didn't know shit about music. The first album he ever leant to me was Road Apples, and when he died, I wanted to have LTR (or Fiddler's) played at his funeral. Unfortunately, we already had too many songs (he was also a big Springsteen and U2 fan and the new U2 album had just leaked the week he died, so I figured it would be appopriate to play something from that instead) and we couldn't do it. Actually, when he died, I sent a letter to the band about him and got a very nice response the next week, which obviously meant a great deal to my entire family. But I digress. Hearing LTR really meant a lot to me. :)

- Speaking of LTR, I took a video of the whole song, so if the sound came out decent, I'll be sure to post it here.

- Does anyone know if someone was recording either audio or video of the whole show? Any tapers in the audience?

A friend of mine may have done video. I'll let everyone know as soon as I know for sure.

Bad news. Quote from my friend Ian.

"Nope. My dad forgot the camera when he went surfing earlier that day."

:x

Oh well, maybe someone else pulled through.

Haha. That's one of the most absurd things I have heard. Did your friend slip something under his own tounge?

No, we were both sober as a judge for the show (by choice, in my case).

But like I said to you in the PM, I never said he was wrong. ;)

Here's my recording of the show, hope you enjoy it!
I loved the show. First time seeing them since 2000, and it was great.
