I figured I'd post a bit about this show seeing as...nothing has been posted.
The concert took place in a parking lot outside of the Canada Games Arena at the University Of Cape Breton.
This was a GA show, and with two distinct sections leading from the stage. In front of Paul and Gord D. was the "All-Ages" section (the section/predictably less rowdy section that we opted for), and the in front of Sinclair and Robbie was the 19+ section.
Me and my friends being the hipfans that we are, were first in line. We showed up at 5:45, told that the doors would open at 6 before. They only opened at 6:30...no biggie... we were still first in line. We ended up being front and centre, immediately pressed up against the fence.
Although it was beautifully clear outside, it happened to be the first night of the year with a frost warning. The wait through the Sadies was pretty damn long in the cold (no offense, Sadies fans...just not my cup of tea). All was forgotten when the Hip came out onto the stage.
Of course they played an excellent set, and I'm kicking myself for not bringing Rory's camera, as where we were the crowd was moderatly tame, but GA shows are just so damn hard to predict.
Near the end of the show, the anchors on the fences in the 19+ section gave way, causing the drinkers to believe there was more room then there actually was. The end result was a bunch of security pushing the fence back with all their might, and lifting crushed girls out of the pit. Sinclair walked over, kinda veered overtop of everyone and told them to "Calm Down." and then asked if everybody was alright.
During the encore break, my friend Eric turned to us and said "Boys, I really want to get a setlist". As it turned out, unfortuneatly Eric (sohi here on hipbase) didn't get a setlist, but the three others (myself included) did... so we've been razzing him about that. I mean, I'm a nice guy... but not that nice.
Also, as you guys may know, Downie has been jumping down into the audience and getting people to "pull the microphone out of his heart". During 'My Music At Work', I was the lucky audience member that night. I hate to sound arrogant, but my friends noticed a lot of motions at me throughout the night, and they claimed that they must recognize my face from the other night in Fredericton. I didn't really think this was the case... ...well that is, until the Charlottetown show.
Anyways, stellar show. Damn good memories. Sorry for not recording it, I didn't really want to risk busting up Rory's camera though. Here's hoping the other three maritime shows will suffice.
As a side note, we tried to get a room at a motel called the "Jaques Cartier", but there was no vacancy, so we continued on our trek while commenting on the loose hip reference in the name and how it would have been cool to have stayed at a place semi-hip related. We headed back into town... ...we ended up staying at a different motel. It was number 100 on the street... and I kid you not, the name of the motel was "The Meridian".
Any questions or anything about the show, I'd be glad to answer. Sorry for the delay.
Stay Hip!

99% sure this is Downie's hand writing... especially after comparing the 'University of Cape Breton' part with anything inside the Hipeponymous box set.ikky99 wrote:Interesting. I wonder who wrote that up?

Nice sleuthing. I wonder why he wrote that particular setlist?

The black dots next to each song means he has a guitar for the song.
