...just got the news that the Bs game was moved to 4PM because of the Sox World Series game - so I went to TM and picked up tix in the balcony.

Had tix to the Bs game - and was bummed that I'd be missing the show - so thank you Sox! 2 of my fav things in one day.

See ya there,

From a friend in Boston:
Started with Yer Not the Ocean; New Orleans is Sinking; Fully Completely; Family Band; Ahead by a Century (I think that order's right).

Ended with Little Bones. Encore break included Bobcaygeon. People who drove down from Toronto had Leafs flags and went nuts. So many Canadians were there.

Noteables:
Escape is at Hand
Most ridiculous version of Hundredth Meridian I've ever seen or heard
Fiddler's Green!
Fire in the Hole (to end the main set before the encore break)

I thought you'd like to know. Plaskett was awesome too.

set list was almost same as previous nite in wash dc. no surpises at all. dont know why they resorted to such regular setlists.

show was good. gord was pretty nuts. hand out two mic stands, and about 25 hankies, i got my brow wiped by him which was cool.

The place wasnt full, balcony was about half full. i thought the sound was muddy, i had a hard time hearing gord at all. it was VERY loud.

AND no red sox references that i recall.

i think in the beginning he thought he was in somerville.

not that i am a pro at the gear side of things, but i noticed that during the outro to ABAC, robby took off his acoustic guitar and put on an electric to deliver a killer solo to finish off the song. pretty cool.

tonight i was in front of paul. LOVE paul. Hes the man!

a few pics posted on my blog....

"you were loosening my grip on Patrice Bergeron..."

It's been coming for a while, but now you can add Elvis to the list of iconic singers (James Brown, Mick Jagger) Gord seems to be unconsciously channeling onstage. Sweat-soaked hankies!

Overall a very tight, enjoyable show, and the theater accoustics are so much better than clubs they have peopled for a couple of years. Setlist a bit, what, generic?

Was Bobby's jacket a Halloween costume?

Did he say that...? It didn't sound like Bobby Orr - but I couldn't make it out.

We had just come from the game - and saw Patrice taken off on a stretcher. Glad he is going to be OK. That was scary.

The sounded great from the Balcony. Although - it sounded like the sound changed during the Drop Off - and the rest of the show did not sound as good.

Giftshop was great - felt like the slowed it down just a bit. Glad to hear Locked and Escape and Fiddler's as well.

The evening also saw lots of people in funny costumes and many web enabled cell phones constantly checking the score of the Sox game...

This show was my 21st! And I got to meet Paul & Gordie - this was my first time seeing them in the US at a small venue (only other time was @ Woodstock '99) absolutely going to see them state side again!!!!! I was front row, ears still ringing!

This was a late decision on my part to go to the show, as the wife and I were looking for a weekend getaway and this seemed like a great chance. I thought the band was awesome tonight, but I will agree with reviewers on 2 main points. 1) I thought the show was very very loud. I was up in the balcony and my ears were ringing. 2) I am glad I did not check set lists from the night before because I would have been very dissapointed seeing one so similar. I always say that the best thing about the Hip is that it is a different show every night. This is what enables us to see them so often, and in some cases multiple nights in a row. I always wonder if they feel like sometimes they have to go with a standard hits based set in some U.S. venues. I hope they mix it up in Rochester. Look at those club dates in the fall...4 nights at The Phoenix and other than new songs, nothing got repeated. That is impressive. Keep mixing it up boys. My fingers are crossed for Cordelia in Rochester.

*8th row center on the aisle with a very animated , very well sung Gord singing to my section the whole night..(lots of the band members family around me..)

Lots of video tapers in the balcony as well..!

October 27 2007: Orpheum Theatre, Boston: Set List

1: Yer Not The Ocean (soo catchy this song!!!)
2: New Orleans Is Sinking (a viscuous "swim!" rant 2nd song in OMG!"
3: Fully Completely (a classic, last breath of a cigaratte pantemine)
4: Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man
5: Family Band
6: Ahead By A Century (long guitar solo by Bobby)
7: Gift Shop
8: In View
9: Courage (Johnny is putting a new drum spin on the chorus but i love it...Gord was writing "courage" into space with the microphone and then franticallly erasing it during the "it doesn't matter" line)

10: Pretend
11: Fireworks
12: At The Hundredth Meridian (nasty rocking delivery with Gord's "evolution of man" act..)
13: Fiddler's Green (knocked me to the floor...! no words..so emotional)
14: The Drop-Off (best rocker since the band wrote since "On the Verge" by far)
15: Poets
16: Locked In The Trunk Of A Car (straightforward "Let me OOOOUT")

17: Fire In The Hole (thought we were gonna get the "burning church"
rant since Gord introduced the song as the same.. but short version was to be..always heavy metal though..)
18: The Lonely End Of The Rink (this isn't so much a hockeysong as it is "will she show up?" : Gord intro)

19: Bobcaygeon (perfect!)
20: Little Bones (hilarious, Gord looking for his lost Calico cat "Here little bones" pretending to shake cat treats into the microphone)

Yes, I agree LOUD but when are they not loud at the Somerville theater either?

My guess is Bobby got all the left over show costumes from Mike Mills of REM..

God-damn does Johnny hit those drums hard..
Also, no more cover versions eh?

I know that it was recorded by regular contributors and an unknown (at least to me).

It will be posted... eventually. I don't have the footage/audio so I can't even guess at when.
