For me, when you show up to a U.S. show (except for Buffalo) you expect smaller sized venues. When I showed up 2 hours early, and there was nowhere to park near the venue (entire front parking lot was already full), I wondered what was going on. Ended up parking about a 10 minute walk from the venue.

As we enter the "Lounge", it is becoming quite clear that we will not be having a show to ourselves this evening. What? This is not even the room? There is another room? A big warehouse type building is attached with garage doors open to let people in and out. After a friend waits 50 (yeah 50) minutes for a beer, we work out way out into the concert area ( I must say it was much easier getting beer in there).

Now, we were told 2,400 tickets were sold. There had to be 4,000-5,000 people in there easy. The place was HUGE, and it was packed. 1 bathroom for all those people. I guess I'm a little disappointed with the venue, but enough about that.

Has anyone ever been to a Hip concert before where they were giving out free cigarettes?? Ya, free cigarettes, and I think every single person was smoking them at the same time. Ok, enough, enough, on to the Hip.

The Hip were astounding. Sure the setlist didn't vary too much from other nights, but myself and most of the crowd weren't out the other nights. I can't comment too much about Gord's onstage antics, mainly because I could hardly see him. We stood at the back to avoid the crowds. The sound at the back was quite good for that kind of place. A bit of an echo from the drums, and Gord D. was not too audible, but other than that pretty good.

Springtime and Locked made the show for me. You always see people making there way out of the crowd when Springtime starts, only to rush back in when they finally realize what song it is.

It sure was different to see Gord remain on stage by himself at the end of Blow, and Fireworks, to thank the crowd and the crew, and to let us know this was the last stop on the tour. He was quite personable last night, more-so than usual. Although, at the end of Blow, when he was thanking the crew, I think someone threw something at him (not sure what), because he yelled something about respect, threw his mic on the ground, and got off stage right away. I was thinking some jerk might've just blown our encore.

This tour sure lasted a long time. 3 shows for myself. Good times, good memories. Too bad I couldn't meet any other Hipbasers at the show last night, but again, there were just too many people. We'll do it next time.

This was 1 of the worst venues I've ever been too, and the free smokes explains why 90% of the crowd was smoking the entire time. I loved how the room's only ventilation system was the 3 or 4 garage doors on the walls that they opened 1 of twice, once between sets and then during Grace, I do not for a second miss the smoke in any Canadian venue and most US ones as well, hopefully by the end of the week my breathing will be back to normal.

As for the sound, if you kept your head dead straight it was ok, if you turned just slightly it was horrendous, I give props to Mark and the rest of the sound crew for making that concrete box sound as good as it did.

Setlist, well you can already see that.

The All Inn Lounge is basically a large cinder block warehouse. There was a six foot stage set up at one end of the huge room. In front of the stage were 15 rows of folding chairs. This was the VIP area. A few barricades separated this area from the majority of fans in general admission. VIP tickets were only available through the bar and therefore this section was dominated by locals from the surrounding towns and people from the Akwesasne Mohawk reservation. The Hip concert was an exciting event for this area and the venue was jammed to capacity with fans. Doors to the show opened at 6:00pm. There was literally 2000 people standing at the door at that time.

The show began with Robbie Baker taking the stage minus the beard and moustache he had the night before in Rochester, NY. Gord D was his energetic self. Paul, Johnny and Gord S showed great energy too, as The Hip closed out their World Container tour.

Some of the highlights for me included Paul playing a new guitar during ABAC. I don't know what kind it was, but it was a bright pumpkin orange color. As the band played the intro for Springtime in Vienna, Gord D was counting off steps to choreographed "rock star" moves. He did these moves a number of times before saying, "You too can learn to be a front man". During 100th Meridian Gord danced about crazily and finished by humping Johnny's drum kit. Then he tried to lean back and spin on his mikestand. It snapped in half and left him lying flat on the floor. He picked up the pieces and gave them to lucky fans. Unfazed, Gord grabbed another mikestand, leaned back on it and spun about the stage pretending to be a race car driver.

Robbie played a Rolling Stones riff before dropping into the familiar chords of Poets. During this song Gord's mike was stuck in his chest like an arrow to his heart. He was trying to pull it out, but he couldn't. Gord enlisted the help of a confused bouncer in front of him. The bouncer pulled and pulled until he dislodged the arrow, slightly embarassed that he was the center of attention. At the end of the main set Gord said good night and he was giving a special thank you to the road crew. Some ignorant fans began throwing items at Gord. He became quite upset and yelled it was not very civilized to throw things at performers because it showed no respect. With that, Gord threw his mike to the floor and stormed off the stage. I was positive Gord wouldn't be back for an encore. Thankfully the band returned for three more songs.

After the show, we hung out by the tour bus waiting to meet the guys. About 20 people waited with us while the band was still inside the venue for an after show meet and greet. When the meet and greet was over The Hip told security to let us all back inside to meet them also. It was very fun to chat with the guys and get pictures and autographs. I've had some wonderful experiences following the band throughout North America. I love watching The Hip play their music.

Just got back from our trip. Rochester Friday night was amazing. A great venue, crowd, and of course the greatest rock n roll band alive.

Saturday was well very interesting. It was a nice relaxing drive to Hogansburg. We went long stretches of highway without seeing any traffic.

I called the Lounge on Thursday since the time of the show (marked on the tickets) did not match the times posted in the article that made it into various Hip sites. Mgmt. at the venue told me there was a handful of VIP seats available. I bought two even though two GA tickets were in my possesion.

We felt really bad for hip basers and true fans who had to deal with the nonsense at the show. After seeing the band in some great intimate venues this place was not ready to handle the volume of people.

We were treated very nicely by the venue. However as the show went on the VIP section became a free for all. Halfway through the hip's set waitresses were bringing the crowd at their seats trays of free beer. This was inciting a riot imo. The hip should have walked off the stage between the third and fifth song. A half full glass of beer came flying at Gordon and he pointed angerily at that person. This prompted others to start throwing these foolish glow sticks that were also being given out in the section (along with free cigarettes). I thought for sure we would be back at the hotel in a few minutes.

Big props to the band for playing a fantastic show and even more kudos to security who moved front and center to keep chaos from breaking out.

Like Hugh stated I thought there would never be an encore. Billy Ray from what we saw was taken some abuse setting up for the last three songs. However the hip finished the show.

We travel from Buffalo, NY to the shows. Rochester was fantastic. Music lovers enjoying the incredible music. Saturday however was a different story.

Oh I mentioned the hotel. The Comfort Inn next to the casino. Our room was full of lady bugs. Crawling on the walls, the bed you name it. I called the front desk however the place was sold out so we had to live with it. Rest assured we would never return to this area for a show again.

The Hip...well they were fantastic. In my humbled opinion the best band on the planet. Thanks for the memories. There were many from the WC tour!!!

PS...great pics Hugh!!!

I remember him wearing that Jedi shirt at their Syracuse's Club Chameleon show back in '95. Considering how sweaty that shirt got that night, I can't believe how well it's held up.......

The show truly had the makings for a disaster from the start.....with the combo of a fire hall type venue, free stuff handed out and all the draft beer your could drink, I never expected to get a full show out of the deal. Like stated above I thought for sure the show was over at the end of Blow.....it was totally uncalled for to throw glowsticks and free cigs up on stage while Gord was trying to thank everyone. But showing why they are such a good band (and possibly because they may get scalped for not fulfilling the whole show) they finished the night. Locked killed it for me

I was able to get Gord's hand written set list from the night and what was best about the show was afterwards....the idiots cleared out and only a handful was left to talk to the band (which I was so happy with the security letting us be personal with them)....got 4 out of 5 sigs on the setlist (Gord S. son was there so he was on the bus the whole time) and completed the 5/5 hand written setlist I got from Burlington in April.

Venue/Crowd 1/10
Show 8/10
Afterwards 11/10

Man I have been going to shows since my first in 1977 (Ted Nugent - Niagara Falls Convention Center). That was the old days when idiots used to throw M-80's or other firecrackers from the upper decks to show their appreciation.

You are right this was a disaster waiting to happen. We were amazed the show went the distance. Rochester would have been a fitting end to the tour. However the hip were awesome none the less.

The reality of the situation is that this show easily could have turned into an absolute nightmare. A friend who works at an area radio station and lives 5-10 miles away, told me that this was the bar's second show ever and had only been open a month or two. Apparently the venue's previous life was, at inception a mini casino/bingo hall and shortly thereafter a cigarette warehouse (hence all the cinder and rolling doors.)

The Acoustics: a bit shite, but I've heard much much worse. And the fact that there were that many people in a factory stlye warehouse and it still sounded okay, is great. Frankly those who thought it was so terrible or even "the worst" are either spoiled or inexperienced.

The Venue: Given they decided to cut their teeth with a band that has a large following like the Hip, was risky (surely blinded by dollar signs) but luckily everything went pretty smooth. Parking was slim but managed by attendents. Security/staff was plentiful and the ones I noticed were super chill. And I hate to say it but growing up near the place and knowing the sheer amount of rowdy unlawfulness possible for the area, the show could of been totally compromised, but it wasn't and the staff seemed prepared.

Also, why didn't they advertise what the hell VIP seats entailed? If I knew that they meant close to front row seating along with free beer. I'm in. I easily drank the difference in price. They problem is I've been to too many shows where a VIP meant a special parking area, a plate of mac salad, all you can eat pep and cheese and a slight chance of meeting the band. This was clearly otherwise.

The Room: Frankly the VIP seats really messed up the crowd situation. Five rows back was really 20-25 with the VIP Seats. I would like to think that most of the pushing and shoving was cause people in the back could see somewhat of an open area up front (the VIP) and then tried to make their way in but I'm pretty sure it's cause people suck. Sometimes there's room other times there's none. This was a "none." And I wish more dirty mf's out there would realize it.

But I will say that after retreating to the back you could see just fine. It wasn't so much a problem that the stage was too small it was just that the place was flat. No grade whatsoever. Up close you got quite a few heads and shoulders corrupting your sight line. In the back the field of view opened and you can see what Gord's actually up to. Plus you're super close to the beer stations which with the main bar way too small for such a crowd, was a nice touch.

A nicer touch woulda been something, gee I dunno Canadian. I'm sorry but that close to Canada, drinking Budweiser is kinda a slap in the face.
Then again being able to smoke at a show was awesome. I know it sucks for all you non smokers, and personally I agree that you shouldn't have to suck down my second hand, but that was a nice throwback feeling. A couple of years ago this was what every bar show was. Oh how quickly we forget...and frankly I wish ya'll wouldn't bitch about it like you were a puritan protesting a Hooters.

Having a beer with a smoke at a show. At the same time?! Insanity!

And could someone please fill me in, is Canada largely "non-smoking" now too? Its been a little while since I'd gone over and although the show in Montreal last november was non, I assumed it was the venue not a law or anything.

Overall: While the venue was iffy in more than a few ways, it really wasn't that bad. I would go back, although $50 is still far too steep for any Gen Ad show.

The boys rocked (as usual) and I'm starting to get used to the fact that most shows are going to be "yer favorites" and not mine, but whatever they happen to play you can bet your ass that they are playing theirs off.

I don't think I've heard a Hip show sound that bad, and it was all due to the venue,it just wasn't made for llive music. I bet you it echoed when they called B15.

I guess the Hip's sound guy is inexperienced too because he thought it was shit too,HELL even.
