Just finished listening to this again, brought back great memories. It was the second show I ever taped (the first being the night before). I'm sure glad I was there to witness and capture it. My friend Chris wasn't very excited I was taping. He agreed to only talk between songs and kept me laughing the whole show.

I wonder who Gord would tell us to write in 20 years later, maybe Bernie Sanders.

If you are taking suggestions for the PP tour, I would recommend Dec 11/98 Combined Locks. If I recall the story correctly, the guy who recorded the show, wasn't even there for The Hip, but the opening act. One my favorite audience recordings.

Tape hiss, questionable audio quality, crowd noise... this is the exact type of recording I had in mind when I wanted to start this. When I look back on my Hip fandom, it's the concert recordings that skyrocketed my interest into the stratosphere.

This Burlington show is fantastic. I would give the overall audio quality a B- perhaps (but audio quality never has dissuaded me from listening to a show).

Everytime You Go was scarcely played after 1996. It popped up in 1997, and maybe again in 2000 if I remember correctly... but I think that's it. Also, I always loved 1996 Ahead By A Century more than most other eras... to me it sounds more subtle and acoustic in this era.

A couple months ago I was on a huge 700 Ft. Ceiling kick, and I love the backing vocals and verses on this live version perhaps even more than the studio.

Cordelia. Why this is so rare is beyond me. It's a hit and it kicks ass. Those opening riffs slowly creeping in made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

What a fantastic Meridian as well! 'If you lived here, you'd be home by now...'

Apartment Song is also underrated as hell. Gordie must have gotten the idea for this song after seeing the trailer for Toy Story :p

Hiccups / Daredevil is usually in my top 5 Hip songs of all time. Maybe I know the Live 10 / 1996 Vancouver version a bit too well, because Gord's delivery of the lyrics seems a bit out of sync from what I'm used to. Threw me for a little loop.

Let's Stay Engaged. I always thought this would be a perfect closer due to the lyrics, but I wasn't aware that they actually did close with it at least once.

I probably listened to the whole show through twice, and a few other times jumping through some songs. Even though the two weeks of this show being featured flew by, I'll be leaving this one on my cell phone for a while.

Just as show #2 starts up, I'm jumping back to this. Not for a comment on the show, but the venue. Being in Ottawa, Burlington is a pretty regular destination for shows that never make it up to Canada. It's a city (small city) that punches way above its weight for bands, thanks to the arts community, venues, and location as a good mid-week stop for many touring bands between larger cities.

Saw The Hip at Higher Ground, and the Flynn...and would always walk by the auditorium (now not hosting live shows) and think how great one of these shows must have been. For whatever reason, maybe I was geographically challenged, I drove to NYC for a show on this tour (which was great) when I could have driven a couple of hours.

The band developed a real strong following in Burlington. At the Ottawa show I was wearing a Magic Hat brewery t-shirt, and easily a dozen people started talking to me about my trip across the border versus their crossing mistaking me for a green stat comrade. Struck up a conversation with one guy who was there with will call tickets from Johnny after they became friends seeing the band in their bar days. Then in Burlington a few weeks ago wearing my Hip hoodie, easily 10 people stopped and chatted about the band and Gord. Music can be incredibly unifying....
