Hipbase Bootleg Club - Winter 2020

Post by sean.bonner »

It's a new decade. I still listen to Hip boots all the time. Let's fuckin do this ladies and gents.

If you want to participate, just send me a PM with a show selection and I'll queue it up. We'll do one every three months.

I'll get the ball rolling for Winter with frigid February show on a tour who's album seems to polarizing and cold to many.

2013-02-01 - Moncton, New Brunswick - Casino New Brunswick

The Tragically Hip
2013-02-01 - Moncton, New Brunswick
Casino New Brunswick

Seeing The Hip in that ballroom off of Mountain Road in Moncton, New Brunswick always felt very intimate. The floor was always GA, with bleachers in the back with the bars. Me and whatever gang I was with, could always find our way up very close to the stage for the show. The stage was not that high off of the ground, maybe two feet at best (for the two shows I saw there, I was not there for the Moncton Fully Completely show).

The 2011 show in this room was the first show after the Bobcaygeon concert. I don't recall the exact quote, but during the credits in the Bobcaygeon film, Johnny pokes fun at the fact that their next concert is at a casino.

But as Gord would said, "You are the venue."

But seriously a great recording that captures The Hip on frigid Friday night in the middle of the winter in small city Canada, something that most mainstream bands fear. The Hip always embraced the Canadian winter and would give us tours at the height of the Canadian cabin fever.

I've always been able to get behind Now For Plan A. It's a great listen with some absolute bangers (some of which are highlighted here!)

Arkells also opened this entire tour.

Recorded at the soundboard. Great show, and nice recording. Special thanks to the Hip for allowing recording, and especially the sound engineer for letting us set up mic stands inside the Soundboard cage to protect them from the crowd.

Don't ever SELL or BUY this recording. Go see The Tragically Hip live, and buy the Hip albums and merchandise. Support the band. (http://www.thehip.com)

hi. its been a long time since ive participated in any hip circles.
i still have lots of old bookmarks of Hip related sites... including hipbase.

i saw there is a companion book. is that new? is this a thing? is someone putting together a touring volume of some kind? Skip Daly just published a massive RUSH book of their touring history. Its pretty cool and he did a ton of work on it.
If you are, i have a ton of live photos taken back in the 35mm negative days that i'd love for you to use.

What an underrated tour for a criminally underrated album.

So glad I was able to get to both nights on the Atlantic Canada swing of this tour. I've been listening to a few others from 2013 as well, and it just reconfirms that even why Hip hype was low, these guys brought the fire every night.
