New Lossless Compression format.

Post by Paul »

Hi,
I've been told about this new compression format from a few people. I wish to share it with anyone interested in sharing files over the net
with lossless quality. Like SHN except much shorter files and therefore a much shorter time for downloading but offering no loss in quality.
The program is free from there site, so for anyone who is interested the address is:

http://www.monkeysaudio.com/dress.

Interested in hearing from anyone regarding this program.

Best to all.

Remove the "dress." from the link and then it works.
Browsed the site but haven't tried the program yet.
Looked at a chart on the site that compared it to other compression programs.
According to the author's own chart of tests, this program compressed a 650 mb disc to 53.6% of it's original size (348 mb), compared to Shorten (SHN) which compressed the same 650 mb disc to 59.7% (388mb), a difference of only 40mb.
Seems like it doesn't make much of a difference unless you are compressing many gigabytes of information.

I would check out a compression called FLAC. Its is Etree is going with to replace SHN in the future.
