I guess this is off topic and an immediate thread derailment,
but I've been really craving a Hip show lately.
East Coast is getting thirsty!
Back to show; I'm sure it will be a fantastic one.

Beer tip for the show: If you are planning on some sodas during intermission buy your tickets beforehand to avoid the long ticket lineups. Its a two stage process.

I think that's just for the side bar on the main floor. The main bar is straight cash. That was my experience on Wednesday night.thebends wrote:Beer tip for the show: If you are planning on some sodas during intermission buy your tickets beforehand to avoid the long ticket lineups. was at the 3 ottawa shows, but didn't make it down to the hammer. question: any rants about David Letterman tonight. I know about yesterdays rips on the NHL and Gary Bettman. Good times.

Re: 10/02/09: Hamilton Place: Hamilton, Ontario
It's 2am; my girlfriend's drunk and she's in Lethbridge (and currently has me on call waiting), so I may not have much to say. Good show tonight. I was in the second balcony--oh wait, she's back--which was an unwelcome change from 4th row in Banff and 12th row at Calgary #1. I'm not the biggest fan of Hamilton Place: so big, so impersonal, so cold-feeling. Anyway, the setlist:
Love is a First, New Orleans is Sinking, The Drop-Off, 'It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken,' Looking for a Place to Happen, Morning Moon, Locked in the Trunk of a Car, Gus, Family Band, At the Hundredth Merdian, Depression Suite
Courage (a), The Last Recluse (a), Fiddler's Green (a), Lonely End of the Rink, Ahead by a Century, Gift Shop, Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man, Long Time Running, Poets, Queen of the Furrow, Fully Completely, Blow at High Dough
Tiger the Lion, Little Bones
Weird energy tonight, especially up top. Y'know what? I'm way too tired. Maybe tomorrow!

Love Is A First - a good way to get the show going, but they should just make Grace the permanent opener
New Orleans Is Sinking - Hamilton is sinking....
The Drop Off - Next.
It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken - I was surprised at how into this song the crowd gets
Looking For A Place To Happen - a lot of confused faces in my sections
Morning Moon - I think this has become the new bathroom break song
Locked In The Trunk Of A Car - oh yeah!
Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park - Got any polar bear in ya? Would ya like some? LOL
Family Band - Solid
At The 100th Meridian
The Depression Suite - it seemed a little subdued but man am I ever lovin' this track live.
Courage (Acoustic) - sweet, with a nice crowd singalong
The Last Recluse (Acoustic) - even with this treatment I still can't get into this track
Fiddler's Green (Acoustic) - "This one's for your mom!" The way Gord said this made it seem like he was taking a shot/making a joke. Great performance.
Lonely End of the Rink - this song seems to have lost a bit of its edge
Ahead by a Century - "Hey! A song I know!" said the woman sitting next to me to her husband.
Gift Shop - The sustain out of ABAC and into the intro was epic!
Escape is at Hand for the Travellin' Man - an extended intro with Gord telling the tale of Material Issue - we met them at a golf tourney.
Long Time Running - "We recorded this in a mansion in NOLA a lifetime ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Robbie started it off something like this..."
Poets - Killer
Queen of the Furrows -
Fully Completely - I'm Mr Fully Completely. That's right, I took HER name.
Blow at High Dough - Gord went about 30 rows into the crowd.
Tiger The Lion - If we lose Bryson do we lose this song from the live repertoire? That's a conundrum.
Little Bones - A fun way to close the night.
Gord was quite talkative throughout the evening, but not as much he was at the start of this tour.

Re: 10/02/09: Hamilton Place: Hamilton, Ontario
Great show last night, crowd around us was on fire and into the show from the get go. Gordie came out on to the floor only once (that I can remember) towards the end of the show. We were 14 rows back dead centre and I was expecting better sound - the mix just seemed off for a bunch of songs but it really didn't detract from a great performance. I thought New Orleans Is Sinking, The Drop Off, It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken, Looking For A Place To Happen, Morning Moon, Locked In The Trunk Of A Car, Gus: The Polar Bear From Central Park, Family Band and At The 100th Meridian was probably one of the most memorable segments of a Hip show I can remember. Had the show ended there I would have been happy to go home and go on with my life in joyful bliss. Thanks to the band and crew for yet another amazing performance. Looking forward to tonight, and closing off a fab 5 days of great music with the Mars Volta in TO tomorrow night.
