I wonder why the band has made the decision to open the last few shows with New Orleans Is Sinking. Perhaps they felt they weren't getting the most enthusiastic reception from the new material. Personally, I think the Depression Suite is a great opener but I bet the crowd goes crazy when they hear the opening riff to NOIS.
It reminds me of the evening with shows for M@W in 2000 when they opened a few shows with Poets.

I agree, I love DS as an opener but last night opening with NOIS and hearing those first bass lines........ the atmosphere was incredible!! The crowd was going off.
Biggest venue I have seen them in and probably the worst, furthest away seats too but that didn't really matter for some reason.
Last night was for sure the best of the three nights I have seen them on this tour - their energy was contagious. Songs that have never really grabbed me live before (Springtime, Gift Shop) really grabbed me last night, God they were good.
Noticed a lot of Gord/crowd interaction too. He got right up to them, let some chick help him play his guitar and was quite happy to stay there being part of the crowd, despite security getting a bit freaked out hehe.
Funny at the start of 'Meridian' he sang the first line and then stopped and then started all over again but changed it and sang 'Me, debunk a Canadian myth..'
Restless Soul, nice to meet you outside the arena before the show!! As soon as you walked away, I remembered your name on here......... thanks for saying hi

Abbotsford gets Hip
Tragically Hip wowed large audience at the events Centre Saturday night

1. I don't remember Gord Downie being that freaky.
2. It's about time I replaced my old Road Apples and Up To Here cassettes with CDs.
Canada's house band rocked Abbotsford's new hockey barn on an August night. And Abbotsford showed that it's got some game, with a raucous crowd and an Entertainment and Sports Centre delivering sound quality that was like a good stereo, cranked to the cojones. The bass from 100th Meridian hitting you square in the chest.
The audience couldn't take its eyes off hypnotic frontman Downie, who is equal parts Mick and Moby, as he physically interpreted numerous songs from the new album, like Morning Moon, all the way back to the classics like Blow at High Dough. Released in 1989 and now 20 years old, the songs from the Hip's first full-length album must now have some official classic status, perhaps bordering on golden oldie.
We know them all. One concert-goer remarked afterward that her companion would turn to her and say "No, this is my favourite Hip song!" with the intro to every tune.
We had all seen the Trajically Hip - at UBC's Thunderbird Stadium, at some more intimate setting that could be bragged about, or even in Vegas. But it was of course the first time anyone had seen them in Abbotsford, and that made for a special night.

You know - we went there with apparently unreasonably low expectations as we were used to having to go see them state-side to see them in smaller venues......was thinking that an arena just might not be that great. Crap was I ever wrong......we were row 1 right in between Gord D and Paul and could quite easily have been the best place to be as Gord spent a ton of time our way. The setlist was amazing, hearing Fiddlers Green was incredible, and if I do say so myself mine and Gord's solo on Music @ Work was the highlight of the night for everyone...hah! Having cool people all around us made it worthwhile as well. Whole night was frggin fantastic.

WilkyDave...you must have been right beside me!! However I think my version of Music@Work with Gord was far superior to yours!! hahahahaha
Great show as per usual. I too was right up front between Gord D and Paul. Great to see them in my home town. The setlist I thought was a touch generic but that was extremely insignificant due to the fact that I was home and leaning on the front rail.
Till the next show
