Post by kenadian »

Hey gang,

I'll be driving from Kitchener to Windsor for the show and back Sunday morning. Anyone need a ride and want to share the gas? There's room for 3 comfortably. I'll be staying at the Hilton just down the road from the casino.

I hope to leave at 11am from K-W and head back at 10am Sunday. I still need to find a ticket so I want to be settled in Windsor early to start working on that.

Cheers,
Ken(adian)

The Casino web site states the Hip hit the stage at 9 pm. Doesnt look like there is an opener but if someone could confirm that would be great.

Is this the first show this tour advertised as "an evening with" show?

Heard the commercial on the radio a couple months ago....made reference to TTH playing greatest hits....no mention of an opener.

My tickets to the show don't mention an opening band. The tickets do state doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm.

This very well might be an "Evening with" show . I'm hoping for a few extra songs than the current setlist from recent performances.

Windsor:

I was pleasantly surprised with all aspects of concert last night. The Hip rocked pretty well and most everyone went home happy (even after a 45 minute delay because the storms knocked the power out to the venue)

The Good: The venue was top-notch. I was personally worried that there would be a large number of Casino "comps" sitting on their hands in the front several rows (I was row 9 in the center) but there was no sign of these types. The entire crowd stood for the entire show! Glad to see it.

The band seemed to really be enjoying themselves. Many times there was terrific interaction between Baker and Sinclar. Speaking of GS, he was really rockin' out! Lot's of interplay between the other guys as well. GD and PL, GD and JF too. Very nice to see. Not matter what the deal is with the setlists or where the band stands at this point in their carreer, it is obvious the guys are true friends and truly do love to play to a full house.

The sound and lighting was A+. Downies voice was up front and EQ'd perfect. Gord sounded very good last night. His unique and wonderful voice is simply powerful. There were times where it becomes a "falsetto yelling match" but on the quieter things, he is singing very very well these days. Much better than the 04 and 07 tours that were long and exhausting. I also believe (just personal opinion here) that Downie is doing much less ranting and screaming in an effort to save his vocal chords. I wouldn't be surprised if he is had some coaching/personal care in this area.

All Three new songs will be terrific in their studio creations. They are all well written and will please most everyone when the new album comes out. Us hipfans should be grateful that these same 5 guys still enjoy making original music together.

The bad: As some folks have written on here, I didn't feel that Downie connected with the crowd like he did on the 07 and 09 tours. There was very little stage banter and even less schtick (other than a small amount of dancing and hanky-waving). Of course the band is not getting any younger but Downie was by far the most conservetive I have ever seen him.

The setlist was fairly decent if you were the novice fan who knew the radio singles. Other than as stated the opening with LEOTR and the switch of Scared for Wheat Kings, the set is the same as all other shows this summer.

After seeing the show for myself my personal belief is the band didn't have time to rehearse. I will leave it at that. I could be wrong but I'll bet the farm on the fact that they will mix things up when they tour for a new album. My hunch is that one or two summer shows turned into 10 then 15. These guys all have families and other musical projects, not mention writing and recording new Hip material... I'll bet the possibly didn't even spend any time rehearsing for these shows.

All and all, I am glad I went. If this was going to be the norm (high ticket prices, boring setlists) I probably won't spend the $$ in the future. But I have no regrets...great show. Nothing like the HIP!!!

want to be your roaring floorboard
want to break the hearts of everyone

Went to Windsor fully expecting a repeat of the recent set lists and we got it. The venue, sound and lighting made a huge difference though, so this combined with the fact most of the songs were played brilliantly made the set list issue almost inconsequential. Looking back on Bobcaygeon I think my expectations were way too high, although the VIP thing was still a farce.

There was a massive storm just before the show with the power being knocked out to not only the venue but the entire Casino, 3 or 4 times. Gord D joked about it when they came on stage for LEOTR thanking the crowd for "not stealing anything while the lights were out". He also commented on the venue stating it was "a great room” a couple of times. I’m personally ok with Gord D holding back a bit and letting the band showcase their talents. Again, Gord S was on fire last night.
It was a 19+ crowd and they stood for most if not the entire show. If you get a chance to see an event here go for it as it’s pretty much primo seating anywhere in the venue.

Left the casino up $225 (thanks to my wife who pulled the plug at 2 am) so all in all it was a great night of Hip and Puttn’ Down.

Wow, the show was well worth the trip from Margaret River, Western Australia! A great setlist being the first time I've seen them live and the front row seat was awesome not to mention getting to meet GD & RB after the show both who are terrific, humble people! Perhaps one day we'll see them "Down Under"!
