That's a simply outstanding day of music.

Smith Westerns-Insanely groovy garage rock from some young kids.

PS I Love You-Awful name, but if anyone's into Japandroids, you'll dig these guys. Balls to the wall stuff from one of Canada's next big bands.

The Low Anthem-Gritty rock yet full of harmonies. Check out their track "Champion Angel" and you'll be sold.

And The Sheepdogs, outta Saskatchewan just won a contest to be on the cover of Rolling Stone.

Osheaga never ceases to impress...

I think that's only the 3rd time I've ever seen the Hip play 2nd billing for a show in Canada. The other two being the Pemberton Festival with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and when they opened for the Stones at Magnetic Hill. Are the Flaming Lips bigger than the Hip on their home turf? I don't think so. Great lineup though! Wish I coulda been there.

Although not comparable to the Hip, the Lips put on a great live show (regardless of how much you like their music) that always entertains a festival crowd. What I mean is that you don't have to know any of their songs to be blown away by their show, which is why they're at EVERY festival. They appeal to average festival-goers who aren't die-hard fans of any one band.

You're right. I'm not a big fan of their music at all, but I saw them at the Sasquatch Fest a few years back and they were very entertaining. It's like watching a circus. They had dozens of dancers on stage, a confetti cannon, and lead singer Wayne Coyne inside a giant plastic bubble rolling around on top of the crowd. It was weird, but fun.
