This is definitely evidence enough -- we need a West Coast hipbase recruitment operation PRONTO!

I almost went to this show. I refrained from buying a ticket until the tour started so that I could check the setlists (with the full intention of going anyways). But in the end, I just couldn't justify the trip for what was bound to be a gong-show outdoor general admission greatest hits night.

Might as well write one up while my ears are still ringing from it: I had an incredible time. Hey Rosetta opened, a great band in their own right. This was my first time seeing the Hip live, so I guess I'm not a connoisseur or anything but it was an amazing performance. Particular highlight was Nautical Disaster being spliced into New Orleans Is Sinking. Stripped of the keyboards In View also becomes quite the crowd pleasing rocker. It might have just been my imagination but Gord also seemed to give a little pause and wink before singing the word "riot" in Bobcaygeon. It did start raining a little (which was actually good cause it was quite a warm evening) and Gord tossed in a bit of a banter about that, at one point coming to the edge of the stage and sticking his hand out.

There were 3 new songs I hadn't heard before. The first 2 songs were Blow at High Dough and Poets, In View was near the start. Little Bones ended the first set, and the one encore was Lonely End of the Rink, Wheat Kings, My Music At Work. I'm quite sure nothing from We Are The Same was played.

Wow, I was mostly right about the songs. Must've been the prodigious amounts of pot smoke wafting around once they got started!

That's a cool setlist - don't think I've seen the bpm listed before. Assume that's Johnny's and he gets a click track played through his monitors.

Any drummers out there who can chime in if that's common practice among live performers?

I'm not a drummer, but I've read that sometimes they'll have a click track playing before the beginning of a song as a guide so that they start at the right beat.

alright, wow. so what a night.

The hip came out, Gord tied his shoes and we were off. I am always "meh" about Blow as the opener but damn it was awesome. Had to be in the 7 to 8 minute range, with the "He's a microphone and a microphone stand, IM A MAN! at the end. Grace, too got the tragically hip line, which was nice. Streets ahead was only alright for me as a new song, it was good, but not as good as Drip Drip Drip with the rain coming down. This song is incredible. The crowd was going NUTS for it, considering nobody has ever hear it before. It has the potential to be the single for sure, great highlight. Love to see the band still connecting with new music, it put a smile on my face. I was front row, and the barricades were reinforced mid show with rope because a lot of stress was being put on them with the likes of Fully Completely, Hundredth Meridian and Poets. I will say this: In the beginning, Gord was missing his cues a little, due to his antics. Example, he'd be doing something just out of reach of the mic, and start singing and have to quickly get to the mic. Also, he was definitely yelling more than singing in the start. But he smartened up. He was doing the usual hanky work. I must say he is an absolute MASTER of the Mic stand wobble with the feet now. I saw it fall at least once a show in 06, 07 and earlier, but the mic stand is his toy now, he is perfect with it. Didnt drop once. Fiddlers Green was a crowd favourite, the "Balloons all filled with rain" got a big cheer. Such a sad, sad song. Odd to see people crowd surfing to it. One girl in the middle in front, had to be pulled out, the gave her water, but she was messed up, couldnt stand, either wasted, dehyrdration or exhaustion or all of the above, it was a messed up scene, they took her to first aid. Rink was AWESOME, i was so hoping it would be the opener, but opening the encore was good enough. It was an absolute lighter fest for wheat kings. Music @ Work was great. High energy show, from the boys. We had a blast. The outdoor GA, was a great experience, crowd was awesome. I couldnt help but think of heksenketel while fully was on. :jump

The show was solid...the boys were on point! It's been said above at least once, but the crowd reaction to Drip, Drip, Drip was unreal. This was my 12th show and I've never seen reaction like that to a brand new song that hasn't gotten air play on the radio yet. very catchy tune!

Also, when did "In View" become such a crowd pleaser? People were absolutely pumped throughout it! Nice to see a bunch of younger people in the crowd...just means the band is staying relevant

should also be mentioned that a bra made its way up on stage. he said, when I see a bra come up on stage, i think, I could always use one more. or something like that.

gord toyed with it, then later in Courage he told a young girl the dangers of taking her bra off.

Did they play the 2 songs listed in the 2nd encore (Kids/Locked) or did they end it with MM@W???
