Great show tonight. Much better than seattle last night. Better crowd, better venue, better band. "Wait up, Washington!"

So how was the show? I really wanted to do the Spokane/Seattle/Portland swing this year, but unfortunately it didn't work out due to a lack of vacation time, and an expired passport. So I have no choice but to live vicariously through the rest of you.

Very cool! Did anybody capture any of these? I'm assuming Steve broke out the sax for NOIS and So Hard Done By?

Seattle was pretty disappointing from the set list to lack of crowd enthusiasm. Seattleites are too cool to care. In contrast, Portland was a very solid effort. Great references from Gord about the 2009 Portland show and recent legalization of weed in WA. Rob seemed to be enjoying the legalization in particular. So Hard Done By, Thugs, and Fiddler's were the highlights.

Too busy enjoying Steve's work to shoot video. Yes, traditional sax on NOIS and Hard. He played some wacky electronic sax on Bobc. Very, very, good!

No video, but here's a phone photo showing the band with Berlin. Got a little tight up there on the Wonder's small stage.

Didn't spot a taping rig in either Seattle or Portland. Hoping I just didn't look around enough, but not optimistic that a recording will surface.

Random highlights from Portland:

-- Downie ending "Fire in the Hole" by repeating "weird .... weird .... weird" -- like he usually does with "work .... work ... work" at the end of Music @ Work. An ode to "Keep Portland weird."
-- Rob failing to open his eyes for the entire show.
-- a couple of personal firsts: Eldorado and Fiddlers (along with Inch an Hour the previous night in Seattle)
-- "Welcome to Burma. We're conducting a social experiment tonight. And you passed!" -- Downie addressing the stifling heat.

Lots of DFN love in this setlist. I like that.

This was probably the best Hip concert I've attended, out of 9. I was worried when In View started, but was blown away by the end of the show. Even Music @ Work, which I'm normally bored by, was fantastic with Berlin. Highlights for me were Fire in the Hole, So Hard Done By, Thugs, and Fully Completely. Berlin was playing a baritone sax for all songs except Bobcaygeon where he was using an electric soprano sax. He had a solo at the end of Bobcaygeon but I missed most of it because Gord was simultaneously ranting about a couple in the second row who were fighting like children.

Surprised there were only four songs from the new album, which seems low for a support tour. No complaints though, perfect show, perfect venue.

Here's NOIS with Berlin (not my video, just found on youtube). Berlin's solo starts at 2:05 and is cut off by Gord for some reason at 2:30

I love all of Berlin's work with the Hip, but he really shines on So Hard Done By. That song is made for mad sax. I haven't found a video of the Portland show. Anybody got one?
