I forgot to mention. Robbie told me Paul Langlois is planning a cross Canada tour after his 2nd solo CD is released. Robbie will be part of Paul's touring band.

Another terrific review Huge. Thanks!

I thought about making the trek from Detroit myself but simply didn't have it in me to see them in a festival setting (with GH setlist). I'm saving my concert $$$ to try and make it to Riotfest in Toronto at the end of August to see the Replacements reunion!

Damn, you know The Hip are in trouble when even thompson girl turns the car around so she will not have to hear the same repetitive setlist again.
Haha!

I love Rob Baker, but I actually found him a bit overpowering when he played with Paul at the Dakota. I thought Paul's vocals/guitar got drowned out a bit at times. Still, I can't wait for this tour. I'm guessing smaller venues?

Nice review Hugh. I'm still okay with turning around.

I thought i was looking at the setlist for the saskatoon show we went to earlier this month  I love rob baker, but c`mon dude, change those setlists up or defer back to gord s. for this task. We have VIP tickets in Calgary in September but am suddenly lacking the usual excitement that came with my prior 22 shows. Concerts are boring when you can tell the people your going with 95% of what they will see and at which point they are going to see it

Gord Downie joined Rural Alberta Advantage on stage during their set to sing "Canada Geese" and another song that I didn't recognize, possibly an RRA song.

All around a good show. Ya it was the same setlist we've been seeing, but it had the crowd going wild. I went with a couple casual Hip fans and they loved hearing all the hits to close out the show.

On prior dates with The Hip, The RAA have closed their sets with Canada Geese and Stamp (one of their songs) which Gord sings the second verse to. You should check out The RAA - they're excellent.

Couldn't agree more. I have tix for Calgary as well, but my excitement level for this show is the lowest it's ever been when it comes to this band. I'm going with a group of friends who haven't seen the Hip in a few years, so I'll probably have a good time regardless. But part of the anticipation of seeing the Hip live on past tours was that you never knew what they were going to play, and that made it exciting. And Gord used to actually sing as well, which made it even better. I know exactly what I'll be getting at the upcoming Calgary show, and that makes me sad.
