Does anyone know if this free Hip show on 10/8 in TO is going to be a 2 hour+ concert, or something shorter? Just wondering if it's worth the drive up from Buffalo, NY.

Take care,
Kevin

I read it's a 45 minute set.

The Hip sounded good at sound check this morning. They played Fully, Lonely End of the Rink and 50MC. It was a great way to start the day.

Just got home from the show and this is the setlist from what I can remember:

Grace, Too
Fully Completely
Man Machine Poem
The Lonely End of the Rink
Fifty Mission Cap
Bobcaygeon
We Want To Be It
In View
Heaven Is a Better Place Today
Courage

Not sure how it sounded on TV, but the band sounded fine live. The crowd was a mix of casual hockey fans and die hard Hip fans, so it might have seemed like a lot of people weren't familiar with the less recognizable material.

Just got home from the show too...stood right up at the rail, and had a great time hanging with Thompson Girl, BIGVDOGG, wesleyc & thecompletist.

The Hipbase was well represented tonight at Yonge & Dundas!

Setlist above is correct songs, but I believe the order was:

Grace, Too
Fully Completely
Lonely End of The Rink
Man Machine Poem
50 Mission Cap
We Want To Be It
In View
Bobcaygeon
Heaven Is A Better Place Today
Courage

Hip sounded fantastic...can't wait for the upcoming tour!

Glad to see they played some less familiar stuff (MMP, WWTBI, Heaven) for a gig like this. Hopefully that bodes well for the tour.

Was there but left around In View. It wasn't as painful as Twitter would have you believe, but perhaps I was prepared for it. Langlois looked like he'd just been rescued from a few months off the grid and Downie was heavy on the crowd interaction and light on the...singing.

Jeff Marek came out during the set to hype up the crowd a bit which sucked some energy out of the whole thing.

At this point though, none of us here should be all that surprised about what the band have become: we've seen them trending downwards to unoriginal, hits-heavy sets. They're not out to please the hardcore fans anymore. Hipbasers have seen the band live too many times to get excited about Courage. But there are people who haven't seen them in years and would indeed drop $100+ on hearing Meridian, Courage, Wheat Kings and Fully all in one night.

Finally, re: the Pearl Jam/Springsteen comparisons. You may've noticed that those two acts have been touring way more than The Hip have lately. They spend more of their lives on the road, they can afford to charge less. To make it worth their while, the The Hip must charge big. No pension in rock n' roll, as I believe Downie once said.

Good to see 'Heaven Is A Better Place Today' on the set. Suprised 'At Transformation' wasn't played.

Anybody catch them on the tele? Curious what was aired.

Lonely End of the Rink & 50 Mission Cap had asterisks beside them on the setlist....we think those may have been the aired tracks.

We were speaking with the camera-man before the show, and he indicated the whole thing was being recorded, fully & completely.

NHL Network broadcasted "Lonely End Of The Rink" and "50 MC". When watching it, I thought it was pretty entertaining. The band looked good, sounded tight and Gord D sounded like basically...himself the last few years. He was heavy on the "craziness and passion" maybe a little less screaming than the last tour... I dvr'd it, I'll watch it again today.
