I'll be there! I am also on a quest to find "Heady Topper", which is known as the best beer in the United States. Only distributed in the Vermont area and you have a better chance at finding bigfoot than finding it in a store.

I was trying to look up when Vapour Trails was last played and that type of search/cross-reference is no longer available at thehip.com (that I can tell)... I have it down as 2004/11/28 Ottawa, ON. If that's correct this is a pretty big bust-out of a song that's been away for over a decade...

Im pretty sure I saw Vapor trails in 1998 at St. Bonaventures Univ. outside Buffalo. Almost positive. Would be the only and last time I believe. Is there a LAST if its the ONLY?Jack Straw wrote:I was trying to look up when Vapour Trails was last played and that type of search/cross-reference is no longer available at thehip.com (that I can tell)... Set list was amazing last night, best by far in all of the shows I'd been to. Band was tight. Being in the first row I couldn't get over how many times Gord looked at the prompter. Seriously was over half of the song in the set he gazed at the lyrics. Someone said it in an earlier review about him knowing more rare tracks but eyeballing the prompter for M@W. Exactly the case last night, with him even botching lyrics. But I guess if I were in his shoes and had that safety net there I think I would continuously peek too.
Stuck around after the show with 5-6 others to get some signatures. Gord's and Rob came out and signed in the brutal cold. I thanked all three for busting out Vapour Trails, to which the all seemed glad they played it. Overall great experience, and I even managed to get some Heady Topper beer!

Really digging the Phantom Power vibe on this tour. I'm listening to the 5/21/99 Myrtle Beach show and Vapour Trails is playing as I type! Still a lot of shows to go, so I'm hoping the Penguin makes an appearance

Re: 2015-01-20 - Burlington, Vermont
Back to Ottawa after the show and a night/day in Burlington. Holy crap, what a show. Vapour Trails, one of my top 10 tunes, finally saw it live. Nice Phantom Power double shot in closing section. Nice small venue (have seen shows at Higher Ground but not Flynn Theater), receptive crowd with a lot of US fans around me. Vapour Trails was lost on most around me, one couple asked "what song is this?".
Have to agree with some previous comments. Gord seems to be making a real effort vocally. After 20 some off years of seeing show, maybe one of the best vocal performances I have seen. At least best in recent memory -- make me realize how much he was screaming through the last two tours. Some highlights:
Grace, Too -- never tire of it as an opener
Music@Work -- song that I think was butchered by screaming past few years, brought me back to why I liked this song in the first place. Add in there Gord totally messing up the lyrics, keeping the band going and getting back on track
Vapour Trails --....just hearing it.....and oddly GD seemed to use the teleprompter less for this one than some oft-played songs
In View: Not a favorite, but one of the better live versions I have heard.
Fully section -- neat concept, bit odd to know what song is coming next. Personally highlight was Pigeon Camera and GD's interplay with the screen. Plus, Gord blowing himself across the stage during 100th. Fifty Mission, neat use of the video screen. Courage had a neat little musical coda at the end that was different from anything I could think of from past few tours.
Closing section -- two from Phantom Power, especially Something On. GD again sort of screwed up Twist but Paul helped him out and they had a bit of a laugh. Great version of Blow to close the night. I was also a bit to the left of the middle section, less Bobby in the mix for me but could really pick out Paul.
Overall, lots of previous comments have been on cost of tickets, length of show, quality of vocal performance. After seeing a show, no complaints from me (no complaints beforehand either -- been seeing shows since Up To Here, actually before that though I am not sure I ever really saw them...they played a high school dance...). Was happy to see a show in a smaller venue, next one is Kingston for me, and I suspect they'll also be a Bluesfest show. Plus, every tour I now wonder "is this the last one." Seeing at least one more this tour, but after seeing 40+ shows if this was the last one, I'd be pretty satisfied.

Yup, it's nice to see them finally dusting off some rarities on this tour. And it sounds like Gord's vocals are in good shape as well, which bodes well for future tours. Clearly he can still sing when he wants to. I'm happy to hear people are enjoying these shows. I've done my share of bitching about the ticket prices, and I'm still of the opinion that they're a bit on the outrageous side, especially for the Canadian shows ($140 for Calgary). As a result, this is the first Hip tour I've ever skipped due to financial constraints, and that's disappointing to me.ikky99 wrote:Thank f**k they're pulling out some gems!Jack Straw wrote:I was trying to look up when Vapour Trails was last played and that type of search/cross-reference is no longer available at thehip.com (that I can tell)... That being said, I'm really glad that their live show appears to be back on track, and they seem to be making a conscious effort to make the setlists interesting again. The live clips I've seen on Youtube sound great. Full props to Gord for cutting back on the screaming and using his natural range again. He's got such a unique and beautiful instrument when he chooses to use it.
