Drive in from NB on Wednesday. Stayed downtown Ottawa. Lots of Hip fans around.

Made the mistake of taking the 19 Stittsville local to the show instead of the express. Took probably an hour and a half, but spent it talking to a bunch of Hip fans, including a guy dressed as Tragically Hip Santa, who was telling everyone Merry Hipmas, and a couple who flew in from PEI just for the show.

So we were late to the venue, which was a problem because the lineups for Security and Will Call almost made us miss the opening song. Grabbed a beer and walked in just as they hit the stage. Nice.

Show itself was great. I was on the floor, 25 rows back. My section stood the entire time so I felt no shame in dancing and singing my way through the show. Perhaps a bit too much, as that, along with my red 1st edition Hip jersey must have made me stand out as a bunch of people on the bus ride home said they noticed me rocking out from the lower bowl

Favourite song was Machine. Was happy to hear Gus and even happier to see Gord give us some bear miming, which has been noticeably absent on this tour. Also very happy to hear Flamenco. The band sounded great.

Long ride home to NB thinking that may be the last time I get to see my first and only favourite band. Hope not.

See you guys on down the road.

No tears? I'm not sure why you would think that 19,000 people all didn't shed a tear. I did. The people I was with did. And I felt tears land on me during Nautical.

Didn't cry at any of the 6 I attended, including Kingston. And I'm a girl, or a robot. Beat that.

THIS! I thought the roof was gonna lift off the place. It was just a crazy sustained roar. In many shows I've had small moments with strangers in the crowd that have made it memorable or joyful or whatever, but this is the first show I've been to where THE WHOLE BUILDINGFUL OF PEOPLE had a profound impact on me. I found it very moving. Afterward I was wondering if that was just a tiny inkling of what it must be like for the performers on stage who are the reason we're all in the building, on our feet, cheering ourselves hoarse.

Just watched the video and the real genius of this was he said emBEARassing, with the emphasis in the right spot. I hadn't caught it at the show.

Yeah, Ottawa is actually on unceded First Nations territory. Meaning it was never purchased, treatied or sold, it was just, you know....stolen. Our nation's capital is actually built on land still owned by First Nations. That pretty much sums up the Canadian-FirstNations experience in a nutshell.
