I was listening to the Hip for 8+ hours yesterday as I travelled to Edmonton for the show on the 30th. I heard Flamenco and If New Orleans Is Beast, and thought about how awesome it would be to see them live, and how very slim my odds were. Then I get to Edmonton, look at the setlist from the show, and now I'm sad I missed them.

Last nights set makes me want to say "f**k it" and hit as many ontario shows as possible. Made me think they could do all of Ontario or at least 3 nights in Toronto with minimal repeats ... something I would not have thought possible following the most recent tours

This band is too good to be true. I was worried about some tears flowing last night, for the obvious reasons, but my eyes welled up because of how great they sounded for 2.5 hrs last night. I can`t help but feel grateful for the ride they`ve given, and continue to give us. I was planning on Edmonton #2 being my last show but now am more than likely going to head to Calgary(the place to do it it's a fact) for the Monday show. Long weekend, my weekend off of work, how could I not?

Wow that was an amazing show. I have been a member of hipbase for a long time and read more than post, but I have been a hip fan since the beginning. This set list blew me away, before this tour started I was thinking greatest hits but still got tickets for all 4 AB shows being in Red Deer is right in between Calgary and Edmonton. The fact that they are playing to real fans is awesome, by the time the 4 MMP and 4 IBE songs were done I think I was the last one in me section standing, singing and dancing. The new album sounded great live, but the "fans" in the crowd didn't know any of them and it was like IBE was released last week they kind of knew summer, but not the other three. If New Orleans is Beat is not one of my favorite songs, but I knew I never heard it live in my previous 20 shows so I sang every word and enjoyed the fact I heard a new song from my band...my band that never disappoints me.

GORD sounds amazing, like back to the club show days. He isn't screaming and is really trying to get these songs right no turn the mic to the crowd at any point thought we might get it during courage, but he sang and he sang awesome. The rest of the band sounds great and goes without saying, sounds so much better live than through periscope. One thing I wanted to mention to everyone is I am a want to be drummer so I watch Johnny a lot and through the periscope feeds I never really noticed until last night that they keep the "acoustic kit" and his full kit on stage during the entire show and Johnny goes back and forth. He played the entire DFN set on the acoustic and he was on it more than the full kit.

I was fine during the show but teared up during "it's been a pleasure doing business with you" when the band kept playing and GORD did a circle with an imagine hand shake to everyone it got REAL and it got REAL fast. Of course by GRACE things were back to "normal".

It was quite clear that the band was giving GORD his time to thank and get thanks from us. Even though the crowd was mostly a greatest hits crowd they cheered their buts off for him and no on wanted it to end.

I am lucky enough to get to see 3 more shows and after this don't care what they play but as always I am waiting for and wanting Emperor Penguin, Get back again and anything off the EP. I picked up a shirt which has the EP imagine on it and since the EP is where it started for me it seemed perfect.

I might post a longer review later. But oh man, what a show. What a setlist. The band was tight. Gord's voice sounds SO GOOD, you guys.

The end of Scared. "I've gotta go. It's been a pleasure doing business with you." Gord turns 360 to each portion of the crowd, waving and shaking hands with each. You guys. Tears welled up. The crowd was SO LOUD.

The encore breaks and the end of the night when Gord said thank you and it was just him on stage.

The Luxury, Membership, Flamenco, So Hard Done By, Daredevil. I had never heard these songs live before. My ninth (and likely last) show. What a night. I love these guys. Thank you, Das Hips.

Hello Hipbasers,

Just awake and at my laptop. Got home to Yellowknife after an all day drive at about 12:30 last night. What a show man.

Got into the city on Wednesday evening and spent all day with my 24 year old daughter Natasha. Her and the rest of my crew all went to the WC at Rexall in 2007, so it was great to have her along. We had two tickets on the floor in row 12.

Got to the venue early around 4:30 PM, via the LRT. Walked around and checked out the merchandise. The custom tee shirt booths were just setting up. Kinda already decided I wanted the tour shirt (heard the vendor call it pac man shirt) and wanted to buy one for my girl. She was unsure, so we headed across the road for a bite and a drink. Ended up at the Fireside Bar and grill and had a great conversation over a few cold beverages.

Went back to the rink around 6 PM and the crowds were starting to grow. Walked up and got our tee's. No line at all. I got the tour shirt and she got the black maple leaf discography one. 6:30 they let us in. Credit card entry is slick. We grabbed refreshments and did a lap of the concourse and then took a seat in the upper bowl to soak in the scene.

After a while we ended up in the bar under the stands at floor level. Buzz for the show (and the beers) was really building. Eventually, I met up with the darkcanuck and friends. Hey bud!! He bought me a beer and we chatted about the Hip. I tried to repay the favour, but the bar was packed and it turned out to be a futile effort so close to show time. I owe you one bud.

Finally got to my seat for the first time at around 8:35 PM, my daughter was already there and the show basically started. I don't even think I got to use the chair, lol.

The show:

Road Apples - Awesome start, grabbed the crowd by the throat with Little Bones. Instantly everybody was rocking out. The rest of that group was tight. Long Time Running - I shed tears and I'm not afraid to admit it. I work for Fish & Wildlife in the NWT, so that drop a caribou line really resonates. The sound quality was bang on all night for me, no complaints at all.

Man, Machine, Poem - Love the new stuff, it keeps growing on me. Great to get Ocean's Next for the first time live. Crowd was a little quiet during this section, but to be expected.

In Between Evolution - to me this part of the show was for the Hip fans who are dedicated. I picked up the disc when it came out in 04, but it didn't get as much play for me as most of the others. Was a little surprised we didn't get Vaccination Scar. Love Gus and Summer's Killing Us. Gonna listen to Can't be Nashaville and NO is best allot the rest of the summer.

Day For Night - Based on setlist watching and some discussion on the Hip Fan Forum FB page, thought we would get these 4 to start. Loved this part of the show - this album was with me when I moved to Coral Harbour, Nunavut and got me through the long dark winters. Daredevil was sooo good. So Hard Done by - kicked ass. Scared - tears again. Grace Too - crowd really into it and lots around me screaming the words.

Phantom Power - solid, loved it. Somethings On and Poets to end the main set. Would have liked Bobcaygeon and Fireworks here, but can't have it all man.

Encores, Fully Completely - Could have played any 3 songs on this one and would have rocked out and I did. This is the one that got me through the years at Arctic College in Fort Smith. Also the album I was listening to when the Leafs and Wendel made their 93 playoff run just bowing out one win short of meeting the Habs for the cup. This stuff cuts deep. 50 Mission Cap would have been sweet, but I still have it on my wish list. Go Leafs Go! At the 100th Meridian! .......where the great plains begin!!!

Trouble at the Henhouse - epic closers, lots of love between Gord and the crowd on Flamenco. People were tearing up again, not me, I was a rock....lol. ABAC for a show closer......didn't want to show to end.

Like I said, sound was awesome, band was tight, Gord was dancing around and having fun, there were a couple of short rants....something about swimming........loved the show, great to be able to go with my daughter, Still buzzing and glowing......I love this fuckin band!! In Gord we Trust.

Got a ticket last minute for this show and decided to make the trip. Was worth it - row 6 on the floor was amazing! Set list was phenomenal. Courage? In tears... Will see them once more home in Winnipeg and thats it :(

Not 100% sure as of yet, there is a viewing party downtown in lloydminster on a big screen. Some food trucks and a liquor license as well so that is a real possibility. Otherwise, just have some friends over and turn it up to 11 on the home stereo :music
