I try to upload an avatar I've used before, but I get this message:
"You have added an image that is too large. Images can only be 500 pixels wide and 100 pixels high."
That looks message appears to specify the restrictions for signatures, not avatars. It will not accept anything I try to submit for an avatar, even ones that I can confirm are within the restrictions of 100x100 pixels and 14 kb.
????

Go to this site and re-make the avator...that should work (maybe)! You have to upoad the image to that site and it will shrink it.

Thanks for your help Audra, but the issue is not that my avatars are too big.
They are all well under 100 x 100 pixels, and under 10 k. I've used them before without any problem, and suddenly, none of them will be accepted, not even the Simpsons avatars in the Simpson avatar gallery on this very site.

Figured it out. And feel like quite the dumbass.
I had an image in my sig (a replication if the OSU helmet stripe -- I've had it there for months) and it apparently was too large for the new sig image restrictions. It was still visible all this time, so I didn't think it was the problem, but when I tried to change my avatar, the image in the sig was what the site was rejecting.
You'd think I would've figured that out when I kept getting the error message that even I had identified as pertaining to sig image restrictions.
