hi - i'm jay from Toronto - i'm a teacher...who plays the hip in the classroom. first show? july 1, 1990 (Molson park). 8.12.16 and 8.14.16 will be my 18th and 19th shows.

best memory? rushing to the front of the stage to see Amanda Marshall at The Great Canadian Party (7.1.92) and no one paid any attention to her...until she said, 'ladies and gentlemen, the Tragically Hip'...and I was front and centre... :D (thank god I had a crush on her!)

Hello all.
I'm Charlie Moose from the beautiful beaches of Ocean County,NJ.

Having been listening to The Hip since 1988.
First show was in 94 at a little club in Philly.
Probably have been to at least 20 shows in my life with various friends, family and lovers.

As I assume most people are, I am absolutely DEVASTATED at Gordon's recent diagnosis.

The impact that this man, band, and music has had on my life is immeasurable.

Gutted beyond belief.

Hi, I'm well, a Hip fan first and foremost. First concert was July 17, 1993 at Seabird Island, BC on the ARA tour. I remember thinking 'Gord looks like Jesus' in his white pants and shirt, beard and all. Hey, I was 16. I didn't know what to make of him live and basically stood entranced the entire time he was on stage.

Have seen the band >10x, travelled to Las Vegas and Portland to see them.

Anyways, just want to get to my 10 posts to unlock the Search feature :)

No dress rehearsal, this is our life.

Former WNY'er here - saw the hip a handful of times in NY and PA. Unfortunately, haven't been able to make it back to see a show in the last 10 years...

My name is Ryan. I'm originally from Cleveland, but now live in Philadelphia. My wife is from Cape Breton, NS, and she introduced me to the Hip about 10 years ago via Bobcaygeon. I've been a fan ever since, but lately (for obvious reasons) I haven't been able to stop listening to them. My first, and presumably last, show was the Kingston show.

My name is Pete, I live in Philadelphia and I'm a Hipoholic.

I grew up playing hockey and was introduced to the Hip in locker rooms as I progressed in skill to the point where I inevitably crossed paths with Canadians (Hail, Hail!). I found the Hip to be all I needed. The literate poignancy, the sardonic wit, the showmanship and confidence that Gord exhumes..and the downright rock n roll balls they have in live performance.

I'm seen the Hip maybe twenty times over the last 15 years. I've stood front row at criminally underattended Philly shows, D.C. Shows, NYC shows..I drove up to Ottawa with my cousin to see them at the National Arts Center, and while sitting front row, Gordie put the mic in the face, and let me yell "MY MUSIC AT WORK!!" My brother and I were both enraptured by his performance in Philly while touring his Battle of the Nudes solo effort and aghast at the SEVEN! people who came out to the show. Afterwards, Gordie found us ("you guys knew all the words!") and had not one, but two beers with us while telling us why he's "not a Leafs guy."

In America, specifically In Philly, I feel like I'm "in the lonely end of the rink" in terms of a fan community. Happy to find this forum. I'd love to get insight into how Canada (or wherever you are!) contextualizes the impact of the Hip and their music. I'd love to find live performances online if you have any leads too. Thought I'd share this NYTimes article that I just framed and have been told by my wife "CANNOT stay in such a prominent place in our home!" Nevermind, I can't figure out how to post a picture.

Hi All,

I'm Emanuelle (Emma) from New York, NY. I grew up in Cape Town, South Africa and was introduced to the Hip in high school. My roommate in boarding school was from Ottawa and was obsessed with them so I learned all the lyrics over a school year. I am a huge fan and have introduced the band to friends all over the world. My husband and I have been to many concerts in the US and this summer we got to experience the Hip in Canada for the first time. We went to the Victoria, Vancouver and Kingston shows. Life changing, really. I'm also a fan of Gord and many of his side projects.

Anyways, happy to be a part of this community!
