That makes two of us. As much as I love Folds' solo stuff, there was something special about BFF.Zenith wrote:Excellent choice of song quotation in your sig there, Jenna_Bird!I love that song - and pretty much everything by BFF.
Jesus H. Christ. I give up on that word entirely. My attempts at humor have been put on hold until I learn to spell properly.chris wrote: but not spelling

Yeah, I'd agree with that. I did get to se Ben live last December, and with the two new guys he records and tours with, it was almost like seeing Ben Folds Five again!Jenna_Bird wrote:That makes two of us. Yes, there are many American Hip fans; welcome to the board. But what surprises me is that they actually educate children in Michigan.barrybre17 wrote:I am also a High School English teacher in Michigan and this is my first post! Respectfully yours (except for that Saturday afternoon in late November)

Hey all, I forgot to look for an intro thread... silly me!
My name's Matt, I live in Portsmouth, Uk. Down on the south coast. I work in retail by day and spend most of my free time either acting or expanding my music collection. I guess I have a pretty eclectic taste. I like most things except processed 'dance' music.
First got into The Hip when my girlfriend was looking for some New Orleans tracks and we ended up with New Orleans Is Sinking. She's a huge fan too, moreso even than me.
Saw the band for the first time two days ago in Shepherds Bush and I really hope I can see them again as it was one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Superb stuff.
I hope I can fit in here as you seem a really great bunch of peope and I've enjoyed my time so far.
Cheers,
Matt

Hey All
Anyone here that would recognise an old a.m.t-h card carrier?
I fear the time may've come to finally turn off the lights in there.
I suppose they/we all slowly migrated, snatched by aliens in the night,
anal probed and dumped, dribbling and scared of shadows in the Hipbase
now, eh?
Ahem...
Okay, so that's probably a little harsh. [But I'm sure Stephen Dame was
'one of them'
]
So...here I am. Blinking into the light. The dawning of a brave new
world. Broadband access. Ha!
Mother?...

Hey Wot!
I remember you. You and Ren and Whorella and all others inbetween...I remeber everyone!
Most folks have moved over. Can't remember what handle i used over the but i was mostly a lurker, not a regular poster - kind of like here....i like the shadows.
It's a friendly place and no Whorella, you can actually hear yourself think and no one is yelling at you in CAPS about mostly inoccuous things...peaceful even.
Welcome though, show yourself around and i'm sure other will be by to greet you!
lates,

Thanks to those laying out the welcome mat...
MattyM: I've read a number of your posts since arriving, proper. [That
Feb arrival date is a little misleading - as I quickly gathered up my
standard snail-up account and left a silver trail back to a.m.t-h!] I
still fondly remember my own joyful discovery of The Hip - and still a
long 6 years before the Internet! Given that they are still largely
ignored here, I'll leave it to your imagination how dedicated that
secret pleasure was.
Aaron: I'm sure I recognise your name. [Looking at my archive. Is that
you with 'Wookie' in your address?] Whorella is still posting her
psychobabble. I'm still in touch with Ren. Ummm, R.H. Allen, el-d, hep
kat, Shelley and Gina Alvino have all posted quite recently - but it's
mostly tumbleweed over there now.
Tthdana: It'll be interesting to see how many of the old a.m.t-h folk
are here. I have a huge affection for that special place, my Hip
connection to the world during the late 90s, early 00s.
And finally...
LOL! A short, appropriate raid from the archive - my first face-to-face meeting with
a Canadian Hip fan at London SBE in June 2000:
You've heard of Little Venice...well, a corner of Shepherds Bush became
Little Canada last night...I felt strangely like, er, a stranger in a
strange land.
We made London later than hoped, but we still just had time to wander
into The Walkabout...an Australian pub apparently temporarily annexed to
Canada for the 'crepuscular'! Even the atmosphere in the pub contained a
distinct frisson and flavour of what was to come...the place was
literally buzzing. After settling on the corner of a table a young dark
haired girl caught our conversation and suddenly interjected...
"You're not Canadian are you...where are you from?"
<I replied a little nervously, fearing we were about to be deported>
"Uh...here, well, when I say here, I mean...Bristol, England, UK _here_"
"Born and bred?"
<Trick question?...should we have forged some Canadian citizenship
documentation?!!>
"Uh...yeah, born and bred."
"WOW!!!...you guys are my heroes! English Hip fans!... Oh, oh, I must
take a picture! <excitably fumbles in bag for camera>
<Snap>
Hmmm...quite possibly the most surreal starting conversation I've ever
had with anybody...ever!
