Yeah, that made me laugh. I think it was after Queen of the Furrows.chris wrote:Downie even fanned Baker and his guitar as if to say it was on fire!thecompletist wrote:Gords voice was strong, the sound mix was very good tonight....the crowd better than 1 & 2, eldorado with messy lyrics still just right and then there was 3 Pistols.
I 've seen many a "Verge" or other oldies where they blast thru or Gord changes the Tone....not tonight that 3 Pistols at one point took me back to a younger Rock'in, stripped down Hip.... it was close to the CD with some raw sprinkled in there... it was heavy.
Finally the 1st star goes to Bobby Baker
The Man "owned" the show... he set up a shop in his corner and played guitar like there we're scouts in the house. geeez!
This was a different show for me over 1 & 2 ( I wasn't at 3 so this is all I have to hang on to for now)
See you live on the acoustic set tomorrow!

I said hello to the few basers gathering at intermission around the taping in Row B (2)...I imagine the video will be pretty nice from that vantage as I was in the same row and man, what a show! nice to meet you guys and enjoy tonight!chris wrote:Excellent.thebends wrote:The couple taping were directly accross the isle from us and I've got their number. I'll touch base with them to see what we can get.
We had a camera in Row 2 on the floor. Two angles will be pretty sweet for a DVD. And I've got the full acoustic set in HD on video.
As per my 2 cents on this show -- I saw them in NYC and Boston and this was the best of the three - The sound in the middle of the second row was just amazing.
They had a couple of 3 song sequences in this show last night that were incredible, including:
--- something on - FC and Eldorado <actually an argument could be made for a nice 7 song sequence to open>
and
---springtime - queen and, of course 3 pistols...3 pistols was a huge treat and as Jeff mentioned, it was absolute vintage! Baker was on fire and having a blast throughout the show - actually the interaction of the band tonight, and on this tour, is the best i have ever seen. You can just tell the lads are having fun!
As for the Gordie's wipeout...I am guessing he is feeling it now as he kinda came down ribs-first on the sound monitor...and Paul and Gord S. did start making their way to him but realized he was ok. Of course, Locked did not miss a beat and it was a great closer.
Cool diverse crowd and I expect that a few gems will be in the air tonight and Tuesday.
Lastly, Depression Suite is quickly climbing my personal ranking of my fave live tunes...I just love it.
Looking forward to further reviews and hope everyone enjoys the next couple shows as I will be living vicariously thru your reviews etc...
Cheers, Edward

What knocked me out was the acoustic set, especially M@W.
It just seems so fresh...almost like a new song.

My wife and I attended the show (our first "evening With") and we were blown away! I can't wait until the Fillmore in two weeks!

Wife and I just got back after spending the night downtown after the show.We had 4th row in the right side floors.
For us, we found the sound wasn't that good from that side - sucks when you really aren't hearing the sound from the other side. It was great being that close but would have preferred to be in the middle and a little farther back.
Saw the band last weekend in Boston and found the sound quality to be so much better there - but we were in the middle (and a little farther back).
Was thrilled to hear Locked - have always loved that song. Fully and Eldorado were awesome.
Though we both enjoyed the show, we both found that Gord was not as animated at this show compared to Boston - he wasn't talking as much before the songs, wasn't dancing near as much or using the microphone stand like he was in Boston (paddling, barbell, stanley cup, mopping, Harley, and breaking it up and passing out parts).
I couldn't believe the energy he had in Boston. Not sure if the day off had anything to do with it??
Chris, you were in Boston, did you find that??
Although this show was not in my top 3, it was still a good show. In fact, any show is a good show!
Have to take a look at the upcoming schedule and pick another roadtrip show.

I was in Boston and would agree that GD's energy was pretty intense in Beantown...although, from where i was, the sound in Massey was better - second row middle. In Boston I was back middle and it was great to...
Cheers!

There was one front row center of the balcony last night too. I figured he was a hipbaser, but he said that he just did it for himself. I didn't get his number or anything but told him to check out hipbase and the hiptracker if he was interested in taping, and that we'd definately love to have him aboard.chris wrote: Were you filming from your seat? I noticed a couple people with video cameras last night - one was front and center of the gallery, the other was front row, side stage of the balcony.
I'd love to get all this footage.

Re: 05/15/09: Massey Hall: Toronto, ON
Did anyone notice the group of 4 guys in the upper balcony, front row who came in just before the show started, and left, must have been at intermission? I could have sworn they were Teenage Head or some other 70's/80's group. The one guy looked identical to Joey Ramone. My friend and I had seats right beside them, and one of the guys struck up a conversation with me about how he hasn't been at Massey Hall since '76 or whatever. These guys were hilarious. Two of them wore sunglasses all night, and one of them spent 20 minutes on his cell. Anyways, yes a great show, I was just curious if anyone caught a glimpse of these guys and if anyone recognized them.
